About the Teacher

Education
I received my Associates Degree from Roane State Community College. From there I transferred to Tennessee Technological College in Cookeville and received my Bachelor's Degree. In the fall of 2011, I began my Master's Degree program and obtained my degree in May 2013 in Instructional Technology from Lipscomb University in Nashville.

Experience

I began substituting when our son was in elementary school. From there I was offered a position as a Special Education Assistant. It was during that time that teachers with whom I worked encouraged me to go back to school and get my degree in education. My first "official" teaching positions included an interim at Spring City Elementary, Midtown Elementary, Kingston Elementary and Dyllis Elementary. My first year at Oliver Springs I taught first grade and then moved into a second grade position. I was fortunate to move  to Dyllis Springs when it was opened.

I was promoted along with my second grade friends to third grade for the 2015/16 school year and have been here since! It was a very rewarding year! I loved teaching math and science and I have learned a lot . This year I will be teaching Science and Social Studies.  I'm looking forward to having a great year!

Family
I grew up in Oak Ridge and then later moved to the Karns area where I graduated high school.  I married my husband, Richard, who was from Roane County and we set up housekeeping here. We will celebrate our 44th anniversary in August.  We have been blessed with three wonderful children, Stephanie, Jennifer and Derek. They, in turn, have blessed us with eight fantastic grandchildren.  We have an adopted short-hair cat, Austin, and believe it or not, he's very spoiled!
